Best Time to Visit Maasai Mara for the Great Migration
The Great Migration is one of nature's most spectacular events. Over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, make their annual journey across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The Mara River crossings between July and October are particularly dramatic, with massive herds braving crocodile-infested waters.
Peak Season: July to October
This is the ultimate time to visit. The herds are in the Maasai Mara, and you'll witness death-defying river crossings almost daily. Predators are abundant, following the herds. Expect excellent weather with minimal rain.
Shoulder Season: June and November
Great value months with good wildlife viewing. In June, the migration is arriving; in November, it's departing. Fewer tourists mean more intimate wildlife encounters and better rates.
Green Season: April to May
While the migration is in Tanzania, resident wildlife remains. You'll enjoy lush landscapes, newborn animals, excellent bird watching, and significantly lower prices with fewer tourists.
